Vacancy - Clinical Coding Lead (CCL)

We are seeking an experienced NHS Clinical Coder with a commitment to furthering the Clinical Coding profession.  The role Clinical Coding Lead (CCL) is to work as part of the IHRIM and NHS England partnership to provide the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ).  This includes being an integral part of the approval and QA of the papers, scrutinising the marking, provision of analytical reports and involvement in the Appeal and Complaints processes.

You will need to have:

  • possession of the National Clinical Coding Qualification (UK) with at least three years’ post qualification clinical coding experience.
  • evidence of continued professional development (CPD) that demonstrates the applicant is keeping up to date with current national clinical coding standards.
  • a minimum of six years’ consecutive clinical coding experience overall.
  • a good knowledge of other issues relating to clinical coding such as SNOMED CT, Audit, Data Quality etc.
  • provision of the name and contact details of one referee with evidence of support from their current employer.
  • current employment within the NHS and not be employed by, or connected with, a commercial company other than for up to 20% of your employment hours.

There will be a requirement to attend a number of meetings usually via Teams to accomplish this work.  The scrutiny takes a full week and is currently held in Liverpool so it is therefore vital that you have the approval of your Manager if you wish to apply.

There are 2 CCLs and each takes the lead for one of the exams although there is some crossover and they work together on many of the processes.  The work is interesting and rewarding and would support your own career development as well as supporting the profession as a whole.

Remuneration is by way of a honorarium of £200 a month.

If you are interested please send your CV with a covering letter and a short report on how you see the future of Clinical Coding by 19th May 2023 to:
