Agreeing a standard discharge communication/ letter for Emergency Departments. Want your Trust to be involved?

Professional Record Standards Body is leading a new national project to develop a standard emergency department (ED) discharge summary and would like to seek your support.

Commissioned by NHS Digital with clinical leadership from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and Royal College of General Practitioners, the project aims support the delivery of high quality care by improving the quality of ED discharge summaries.

Once developed, the new standard will be implemented across the NHS as an electronic communication, making ED discharge summary transfer more timely and enabling patients to receive the right care at the right time. As an evidence based project, we are committed to widespread consultation with patients, clinicians, healthcare professionals and suppliers, to ensure that the outcomes and recommendations used to inform national strategy, are both practical and fit for purpose. Even at this early stage, if you have any feedback or information that might be helpful in developing a standardised ED discharge summary, we could like to hear from you.
